… because I’ve just changed the way GUIDs are generated for the feed and, depending on how your feed reader works, it’s probably pushed a load of older posts/updates as unread for a second time. A couple of weeks ago, I had the bright idea to delete feed items that related to content no longer on the site, but failed to realise that the way I had it set to generate GUIDs meant later entries would then be assigned GUIDs that were previously used for the deleted ones. Feed readers (reasonably) interpreted new posts with reused GUIDs as already read, so the newest updates weren’t showing up as unread posts. The only way of fixing it was to assign new GUIDs to the whole lot, making everything an unread post … at least it won’t happen again.

The only thing of substance you may have missed is a predictably typical diatribe about how I love not being part of online communities, cunningly disguised as a book review, and the response I posted to a comment I received on that post (lol), which is about half as long as the post itself.
