Oh man, this is wonderful. I love the character voice, the shared history and the depth of feeling and intimacy between these two, and in the background, the fractured bonds with Nooj and Paine that could still be mended. The tension between the factions and their philosophies is so well-drawn, as is the way it intersects with their more personal wounds and loyalties – they’ve both unintentionally hurt each other and been hurt, and it was a lovely bit of catharsis to see them get past that at last. Beautifully done.

I really like how many sides of Baralai you portray through Gippal's eyes. The public versus private, the past and the present Baralai. The way Baralai (unintentionally) hurt Gippal, the way Baralai is still important to Gippal, the way Baralai is still the one for Gippal. Gippal just reacting immediately to any crack that Baralai lets through just gets to me. And I loved especially seeing softer Baralai through Gippal's loving eyes. The way the story naturally flows/melts into the intimacy at the end is so good!!
