You set this so well - I don't know these people at all, but you've made the show and its context easy to understand, and the way the people involve absorb Mike's choice and deal with it (or not) becomes all the more interesting with that background. I particularly admired your knack with the unspoken - nobody states their feelings, but they come across clearly through the action and reaction you've written. It's such an interesting look at Ireland in the eighties, too, for a non-Irish reader: I wonder if the same would be possible today in a very different Ireland, with far more diverse media...?
i don't know these people, but i really felt for them throughout this fic. the shock, disbelief, the abruptness of it all, trying to make sense of mike's decision. i thnk your feelings for them really did come through in this fic!
