Aw man. I'm not likely to ever try a CES challenge game myself but it's such an interesting concept to think about in narrative terms - it'd necessarily be a very different vibe than the more typical run with 12-14 characters. And I really like what you've done with it here! Everyone is fucked-up and miserable and coming up with weird justifications for their choices - and Locke's timing could not possibly be any worse, oh my god, poor guy. No closure at all.
Cyan also rates an "OH MY GOD POOR GUY" because if anyone was going to be consumed with rage and go try and 1v1 Kefka, of course it'd be him. And Locke not quite connecting the dots between Shadow and Relm is just... ooooh that stings. That's a brilliant touch.
There are a lot of things I like about this and all of these different strained and awkward relationship dynamics are choice, but I think the Locke/Celes scenes shine the most. They're both just... so intense, in general and about each other, and so dysfunctional, and that whole exchange from "It could've worked" to "We would've argued about everything" to "I'm glad you're not dead" is so deliciously bittersweet, I love it.
Also, Sabin is the best.
