I like this a lot! A thing I love about the Figaro brothers is that, more than a lot of fictional sets of twins, they're really their own people, and quite different. Their stories are closely connected, but they don't entirely revolve around each other - although it's a little uneven, because Edgar's story is way more about Sabin than Sabin's is about him. And this fic reflects all of that so well.
(Aside - everything in this story is a reasonable extrapolation from the text of the SNES English translation, and personally, I like seeing takes that aren't beholden to the same set of extra-canonical material much of the fandom is working with. Keeps things fresh!)
I love young Edgar being a troublemaker and young Sabin being the good kid - but also being the one who quietly recognizes that their paths in life are going to be different. Edgar's weird level of emotional investment in their super-special twin bond here took me by surprise at first, but it works so well. The mismatched expectations! The slap! And considering that Edgar has to be the one who eventually lets go... How wonderfully angsty.
I really dig all the little details about their upbringing and their gradually emerging differences (Edgar's fencing scar! Hair products! Sabin getting tall all of a sudden!) and the scene after they reunite is really sweet. Thank you for sharing this!
